In-Sync, Inc. of Dallas is presenting a 2 Day Digital Imaging and HDTV Course

Place:  TM Television, 2307 Springlake Road, Suite 518, Carrollton, TX 75234

Dates:  Monday September 30, 2002, Tuesday October 1, 2002

Times: 9 am to 4 pm  

This introductory course is designed for Producers, Directors of Photography, Gaffers, Assistant Camera Persons, and Video Engineers.  Participants will learn how to cut through the hype of current technology and specify the proper technology for a variety of production projects.

SCHEDULED INSTRUCTORS INCLUDE:

John Johns - Vice President, In-Sync, Inc.  Mr. Johns is a Video Engineer and Digital Imaging Technician with over 25 years in television and film production.  His advanced imaging techniques have been utilized by Disney for projects like “Mighty Joe Young” and “Mission to Mars”.

Steve Franko - Senior Colorist, Video Post and Transfer.  Mr. Franko is recognized as one of the nation's top film to tap colorists.  With tens of thousands of projects under his belt his insights to imaging and image manipulation are matched by few.

Will Nicholson - President, Lucid Dreams, IA.  Mr. Nicholson is one of the areas most innovative Visual Effects artists.  His areas of expertise include visual effects, stereoscopic presentations, CGI, virtual studio and motion control integration.

This condensed course is designed to introduce participants to the concepts used in digital image acquisition from stills to mini DV to the Sony HDW-F900 camera and Panasonic AJ-HDC27 VariCam. 

DAY I
Topics include:

Real-world budgeting

Digital imaging terminology and building blocks

Compare digital imaging with film and other analog formats

Explore DV, & DVCam formats

Format and aspect ratio conversion

An overview of HD Ultimatte and other visual effects

Develop an understanding for the basic operation of HD camera and menu structures

Lens comparisons

Overview of HD distribution including HD direct, down conversion to NTSC and PAL and output to 35mm film

Test charts - Match cameras quickly and easily to current ITU-R 709/SMPTE 274M Colorimetry

Visual effects - HD compared with film, including noise grain matching, image stability, zooming, cleanup and under/overcranking.

 

DAY II

Develop an understanding for the basic operation of the Sony HDW-F900 and Panasonic AJ-HDC27 VariCam  camera and menu structures

Conduct exposure tests under a variety of camera setups

Learn how to set-up each camera to achieve the photographic look you desire

Explore the on-board menus and paint capabilities to control the image while you discover the advantages and the limits of this new format.

Producers will find the information valuable for planning and budgeting for future projects.

DP's will leave comfortable in knowing how to use each camera's controls, light for HD and use the creative possibilities of each camera system.

Animation and CGI in High Definition

SPECIAL BREAK OUT SESSION with Steve Franko, Senior Colorist, Video Post and Transfer to demonstrate tape to tape digital color correction.
