Paul Rodriguez taps John Johns as Vision Engineer for HD Project

El Paso, July 15, 2001: Hispanic comedy star Paul Rodriguez has chosen the 1080p/24 HD format for the upcoming "Latin Kings of Comedy" slated for release later this year. 

"I'm going to gather the best and most prominent Latino comedians in America and do a movie like the blacks did with 'Kings of Comedy.' " Rodriguez said of last years Spike Lee project.

The three camera production was shot with the Sony 24P packages from Ian Ellis Productions of Austin with additional gear supplemented by Bexel.  The package was engineered by John Johns of In-Sync, Inc. of Dallas.

Production sequences included more than 150 low riders in transit along the US - Mexican border to the theatre in downtown El Paso.  Cameras were placed on mountains, rooftops and inside the low riders themselves.

Shooting HD instead of film was allowed us greater flexibility during the production.  Not having to worry about worrying when to roll and "wasting film" gave us the opportunity to gather a lot of great shots in a very little time with limited control over the talent.

Rodriguez was joined by long time friend Cheech Marin of Cheech and Chong fame for the first time on stage together.

Veteran Jeb Brien directed both the HD wrap around segments as well as the live performances.
